The Standards & Conformance (S&C) Portal was launched by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) yesterday afternoon during the 2nd Quarter General Membership Meeting of the Philippine Exporters Confederation, Inc. (PHILEXPORT) at Ballroom A of the Dusit Hotel Nikko Manila in Makati City.
DTI Secretary Peter B. Favila and USAID Acting Mission Director Daniel Moore II graced the occasion by giving their respective messages. Their presence attested to the importance and relevance of this project to the industry.
DTI's Bureau of Product Standards Director Jesus Motoomull presented and toured the attendees into the portal.
Recognizing the pressing need of exporters and other stakeholders for up-to-date and extensive information gateway on standards, trade-related regulations and other trade-related requirements, DTI embarked on the development of the portal
It is an online facility that offers an easy access to a wide range of information on standards, regulations, and conformity assessment activities in the Philippine and other World Trade Organization (WTO) members. It is a virtual one-stop information center that houses the the Philippine National Standards (PNS), WTO Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Notifications; and other trade-related technical regulations of the Philippines as well as the countrys' major trading partners.
The stakeholders, through the portal, could review and provide comments and inputs on the draft standards and proposed technical regulations issued by WTO members.
The features of the portal are:
1. Standards and TBT Alert Services
2. Web Store
3. Catalog Online
4. Database Online (foreign and local)
5. E-newsletter and Message Board.
Stakeholders can avail of the portal's services by visiting and registering to the S&C Portal at www.bps.dti.gov.ph. Subscription to the Standards and TBT Alerts and the E-newsletter is free of charge.
The S&C Portal is administered by the DTI's Bureau of Product Standards (DTI-BPS), which is the National Standards Body of the Philippines and the WTO TBT Enquiry Point of the Country.
It was set up through the joint assistance of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Economic Modernization through Efficient Reforms and Governance Enhancement (EMERGE) Project and the European Unio (EU), with support from PHILEXPORT and Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI).
