Today, I received an envelope. I wasn’t surprised but expecting to receive it anytime considering that I’ve been receiving similar envelope monthly for more than a decade now. It’s my credit card billing for June 2007.
I opened the envelope. I browsed first the brochures of promos. Nothing interesting, and I looked for my trash can.
Next, I checked the amount due and the details. So, it’s the last installment of my Toshiba lappy, which I purchased a year ago under the “zero interest” promo. Fine, I thought, since about P3,600 will be slashed from my future billings.
The bulk of my credit purchases comes from my fuel purchases - which is about P7,000 monthly, and groceries - about P4,000.
My credit cards are a BPI Gold Mastercard and a throw-in BPI Express Credit Classic Card. They are extended to my wife. For some years now, I’ve been enjoying free annual fees. The company was kind enough to waive my annual fees upon my request. Otherwise, I would still pay an annual fee of P2,250.00.
I used to have several credit cards but managed to trim them down to 2. Recently, I received a credit card from another company without applying for it. I was about to call the company to cancel it; but an officemate told me that the annual fee is free for five years. Hence, I keep it but rarely use it.
