I had a trip to Davao City. And, my flight was 6:30 AM this morning. I woke up at 3:00 AM, prepared, and left at about 3:40 AM. I live in Novaliches, Quezon City and I could be at the airport in less than an hour. My travel was smooth and devoid of traffic until I reached EDSA. Along EDSA, there were lots of trucks but the traffic was still moving fast. I was traveling between 50 to 60 kph.
At the Cubao area, I was traveling at the innermost lane. Directly on my right, there’s a long truck; and, we’re about the same speed. It’s following another truck. Suddenly, it’s swerving to my lane. Holy cow! Instinctively, I swerved to the left too to avoid coming in contact with the truck. But, if I continued swerving, I’d hit the island. Another instinct, I revved and swerved back to the right.
Fortunately, the accident didn’t happen. I looked back through the rear view mirror and saw the truck already on the innermost lane overtaking the truck it’s following. Whew! That’s close.
Two Saturdays ago, we went to Sun City Resort in Pansol, Calamba, Laguna for another wifey’s long birthday celebration. This time, the guests were the members of her deceased brother’s family.
On the way to the resort, we pulled over along the road and bought vegetable “Paku”. At the resort, I was eating the Paku raw. Then, I dared our 12-year old grandniece, Aleck, to eat a bunch of uncooked Paku and I’d give her hundred bucks. She didn’t bite. Ha, ha, ha . . . I knew she wouldn’t as she’s not a green eater. I increased the prize to 200 bucks. Still, she ignored it. Then, I increased it to P500, which made her thought twice. She needed that much money and accepted my challenge. Whew! “Are you sure?”, I asked her and she replied positively.
At first bite, she didn’t like the taste. The second and third bites almost made her threw up. And, I thought she’s backing out. But she’s determined to get the money and finish the challenge. She ate some with chocolate cookies, dipped some in a cola, and did everything to finish the Paku. With cheerings from other members of the family, she did a good job!
And, I lost. Hu hu hu . . .
